This is absolutely ridiculous!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can’t even believe that just happened.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no excuse for that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He’s done!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That. Is. Insanity. Wow.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That might have been the craziest thing I have seen in politics.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t touch my rep \u2014 let alone disrespect him like that.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both sides are coming off the field.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m all for being a leader and doing the right thing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hate to see that in our government.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Never been more disturbed by government.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s not what politics is about!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So just for the record, the above dozen tweets are almost exactly, well sort of, kind of, close to verbatim. The truth is they came from peers and prior leaders in the same professional environment, in the immediate aftermath of the crud that occurred this week. Being insiders, they have a little better view than the rest of us, being closer to the situation, comprehending more of the nuances; they can see more of what\u2019s actually going on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But yes \u2014 please accept my sincerest apologies \u2014 I admit: I did take a wee bit<\/em> of liberty in editing the above, otherwise actual tweets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I subbed the word \u201crep\u201d for \u201cQB,\u201d \u201cin politics\u201d for \u201con a football field,\u201d \u201cpolitics\u201d for \u201cpro football,\u201d and \u201cgovernment\u201d for \u201cgame\u201d or \u201cend of a game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tweets came from current and former players and from multiple NFL analysts. They came after one of the craziest nights in professional football\u2026 as called on air, while it was happening \u2014 the Steelers vs. the Browns, with few seconds remaining and an imminent Cleveland win\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd he [Pittsburgh\u2019s Mason Rudolph] takes the snap \u2014 14 seconds to go. He got hit again\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And there\u2019s a brawl going down\u2026 they\u2019re going down\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the Steelers are kicking Ogunjobi in the head!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the benches are coming off the field! Both sides are coming off the field!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maurkice Pouncey was kicking Ogunjobi in the head!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now Freddie Kitchens is on the Browns\u2019 sideline, and telling the rest of his team to stay in the bench area; the Steelers only have about 10 guys left in their bench area.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And security is out in the end zone, stringing the end zone, making sure the fans don\u2019t get out on the field!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make no mistake about it; government is not a game. And one could make a fair point that perhaps the two should not be compared. Yet what is<\/em> true is that in each arena, way too often, the behavior has gotten out of hand. Basic virtues of integrity and respect for all are too often sacrificed. And isn\u2019t it sad, that when only a few words are edited in regard to awful, unethical behavior, the account doesn\u2019t seem like much of a stretch?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately \u2014 at least in the week\u2019s football malfeasance \u2014 one opposing team member was quicker to admit his own mistake. Note the statement by Browns\u2019 defensive end, Myles Garrett, who has since been suspended indefinitely by the NFL:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Last night, I made a terrible mistake. I lost my cool and what I did was selfish and unacceptable. I know that we are all responsible for our actions and I can only prove my true character through my actions moving forward. I want to apologize to Mason Rudolph, my teammates, our entire organization, our fans and to the NFL. I know I have to be accountable for what happened, learn from my mistake and I fully intend to do so.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apology. Accountability. Admission of selfishness and wrongdoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wouldn\u2019t that be refreshing if we heard that from the elect, too\u2026 on all<\/em> sides? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I pray it happens quickly\u2026 that is\u2026 before we have to bring out increased security, stringing the end zone, making sure the fans don\u2019t also get out on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
