{"id":10774,"date":"2020-06-24T08:06:06","date_gmt":"2020-06-24T12:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=10774"},"modified":"2020-06-24T08:11:14","modified_gmt":"2020-06-24T12:11:14","slug":"say-something","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=10774","title":{"rendered":"say something"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>While undaunted by current blogging challenges <em>(recognizing that there seem things you\u2019re supposed to say, not supposed to say, and certain things you must say a certain way\u2026 on top of all, if you say nothing, then there\u2019s also something wrong with you or you\u2019re insensitive or worse or something lesser), <\/em>allow us to say something today by pondering what actually fits. Let&#8217;s say something that&#8217;s helpful in actually encouraging respectful dialogue. <strong>What tidbits of wisdom fit the current cultural moment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As said previously in regard to how we as a nation enact coronavirus precautions, prudence in&nbsp;the dense populace of New York City looks different than in Montana\u2019s beloved \u201cBig Sky Country.\u201d Hence, my concluded tidbit of wisdom:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cOne size doesn\u2019t fit all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What else fits now?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAll men are created equal.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expanding upon the Declaration\u2026 men, women, children\u2026 the abled, disabled, infant, elderly, and more. That\u2019s why black lives matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cPeople should not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can\u2019t amen enough the wisdom extracted from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u2019s 1963 dream. The content of one\u2019s character means most. In all things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cCertain conditions continue to exist in our society, which must be condemned as vigorously as we condemn riots. But in the final analysis, a riot is the language of the unheard.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This quote from Dr. King \u2014 whose daughter, Dr. Bernice A. King, said has been much misused during this time \u2014 explains why riots happen; it does not support nor advocate rioting, as rioting hurts the innocent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I toy a little more, my pondering centers on nuggets of wisdom centered on potentially polar opposites: <em>judgment<\/em> and <em>grace.<\/em> Let\u2019s continue to examine what fits\u2026 first focusing on judgment\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cEveryone has untold stories of pain and sadness that make them love and live a little differently than you do. Stop judging, instead try to understand.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Anonymous<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe judge others by their actions and ourselves by our intentions.\u201d <\/em>\u2014 Jayce O\u2019Neal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cJudging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are.\u201d <\/em>\u2014 Wayne Dyer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIf you judge people you have no time to love them.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Mother Teresa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cJudging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging others we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled&nbsp;to as we are.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Dietrich Bonhoeffer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which leads us to grace\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cGrace, respect, reserve, and empathetic listening are qualities sorely missing from the public discourse now.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Meryl Streep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAnd you know, when you&#8217;ve experienced grace and you feel like you&#8217;ve been forgiven, you&#8217;re a lot more forgiving of other people. You&#8217;re a lot more gracious to others.\u201d <\/em>\u2014 Rick Warren<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cGrace teaches us that God loves because of who God is, not because of who we are.\u201d<\/em>\u2015 Philip Yancey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cOur worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God&#8217;s grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God&#8217;s grace.\u201d<\/em> \u2014 Jerry Bridges<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cBelieve the best about people. Pray for their shortcomings. You are not the standard.
