What a fast moving month! Amid a backdrop of already established uncertainty, we witnessed an August full of momentous events\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The protests surrounding the tragic experiences of George Floyd and Jacob Blake\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Our response, heartache, assessment, and the new details that continue to emerge\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The destruction of Portland and Kenosha\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The violence, riots and unrest\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The political correctness\/incorrectness\/agenda\/<em>something<\/em> that only allows us to use one word and maybe not another\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The massive explosion in Beirut, killing at least 190 persons, injuring thousands more\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Earthquakes \u2014 across the globe in Indonesia, the Philippines, and more&nbsp; \u2014 and here at home near Sparta, North Carolina \u2014 the largest quake in the state since 1916\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Fires in California\u2026 <em>\u201cI\u2019m essentially at a loss for words to describe the scope of the lightning-sparked fire outbreak that has rapidly evolved in Northern California \u2014 even in the context of the extraordinary fires of recent years. It\u2019s truly astonishing,\u201d<\/em> said UCLA scientist, Daniel Swain\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Stormy, unwelcome visits from Isaias, Laura, and Marco\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The intentional stoppage of sports \u2014 for multiple reasons\u2026&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cCancel culture,\u201d in full swing\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The party\u2019s conventions\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The politics\u2026 <em>meh\u2026<\/em> and the games people play\u2026&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The election focus \u2014 only 62 days away \u2014 and the impending choice between two candidates \u2014 a choice unfortunately, with all due respect, which in only my semi-humble-perhaps-inaccurate opinion, seems between one who doesn\u2019t know how to talk and one who talks too much\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The death of the talented American actor, Chadwick Boseman, known for portraying the Black Panther, James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall (and whose family\u2019s tweet announcing his death quickly became the most \u201cliked\u201d tweet in history)\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>And all of the above occurring in this still unsettling pandemic, with no one seemingly knowing always, exactly the best way to respond.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Did I mention the uncertainty?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will resist making the uncertain certain because we can&#8217;t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me not be a depressor of your day. In fact, while much of the above has pierced our peace and been a source of significant concern, I contend this is a huge time for hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHope?\u201d<\/em> you say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed. But it matters what we\u2019re hoping in. Are we hoping and finding our peace in something that\u2019s constant? Or in something rather that changes routinely or depends most on who else adheres to like thinking?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will discuss all that and more \u2014 and certainly much of the above \u2014 even amid these uncertain times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So with one more sweet shout out to our awesome Guest Writers, it\u2019s great to be back&#8230; <em>let\u2019s talk!<\/em> Let\u2019s continue on this journey together, as we\u2019ve got stories to share, issues to unpack, pages to fill. But let us also resist culture\u2019s ever-increasing lure to be disrespectful to the different\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the record, there\u2019s no hope in that.
