Kind of totally mushy and a wee bit dripping.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Callaloo<\/em>. That\u2019s what they called it. It\u2019s a vibrant, green leafy plant with supposedly so many good things in it for you. You stew it or steam it or even whip up some kind of creative salad. It\u2019s a staple in Caribbean countries. In Grenada, where I spent last weekend, it\u2019s a common popular side. Think kale or collard greens with a southern flare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s only one problem \u2014 good for me, as it must be \u2014 I don\u2019t eat much that\u2019s green and mushy. And if I\u2019m honest, it really has nothing to do with the flavor; it\u2019s not that bad; it\u2019s kind of tasty. But it\u2019s a texture issue for me. Years ago, I made kind of an internal personal mantra that I would never eat something green, unless I was able to clearly stab it with a fork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And let\u2019s not even address that which is mushy or moist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But alas, we digress. Let me slightly share about Grenada. If you fly down the Caribbean curve, it\u2019s pretty much the last large island before you hit Venezuela. Perhaps the more technically correct way to say it, is that it\u2019s the southernmost island in the Antilles archipelago, bordering the eastern Caribbean Sea and western Atlantic Ocean. From my house, it\u2019s approximately 1,702 miles away (not that I Googled it or anything).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s known as the \u201cSpice Island,\u201d known for its nutmeg, cinnamon, turmeric and more. Cocoa, fish and fruit are additional exports (check out the golden apple and soursop).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also known for its waterfalls and even an active volcano (Kick &#8217;em Jenny!). How wild it was to walk alongside, still (thankfully) at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But for me it\u2019s not known for any cinnamon nor spice. While beautiful\u2014 coastlines, beaches and more \u2014 for me the greatest beauty is found in something more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Oh, how I love the people!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s amazing how dear our friendship has become\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re from different places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve been raised maybe a little differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our cultures are different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would make sense that from different places, raised a little differently, from different cultures, we would look at some things differently. We would believe some things differently\u2026 we\u2019d have some different convictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why does it work? How can it really be so dear?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we focus on two things\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One, we know we were each created by the great big God of the universe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And two, we know one of the key ways we love Him back is by loving one another well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We pay too much attention to differences, friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We justify allowing lesser things to get in the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ok, I\u2019ll try it&#8230; no matter the mushy&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please pass the fork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Respectfully\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AR<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cYou want me to eat that?!\u201d Sorry, it was green and sloppy.
