You may have realized that the Intramuralist has a bit of a \u201cnerdy side.\u201d\u00a0 Sorry, I\u2019m pretty comfortable with it.\u00a0 It\u2019s the part of me that implored me to memorize each offensive stat for every Major League Baseball starter as a kid \u2014 and the same motive for committing each amendment in the Bill of Rights to a different (albeit creative and quite timely)<\/em> tune.\u00a0 Yes, my inner nerd remains alive and well.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The beautiful aspect of this nerdy self is that it\u2019s prompted by a sincere quest for knowledge.\u00a0 I want to know what actually is good and true and right.\u00a0 I don\u2019t just want to repeat that mantra because it sounds good.\u00a0 Hence, as an adult, the pursuit has continued \u2014 although absent a few of the most current baseball statistics.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One of my keen pursuits is the annual reading of the bible.\u00a0 Call me nerdy.\u00a0 Call me nuts.\u00a0 Ask me what kind of reading is that.\u00a0 But the bottom line is that if this is a centuries old revering of wisdom, then I want to know what\u2019s in it.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want to express concurrence nor contention without being fully aware of what\u2019s in the book.\u00a0 I also don\u2019t want to simply pick and choose what to apply.\u00a0 I want to know the book in its entirety.\u00a0 I want to understand what has made this book so offensive to so many.\u00a0 I want to get why still more have embraced it with their last, dying breath.\u00a0 If this is a book of unparalleled wisdom, then I want to comprehend what I can \u2014 rather than rely on someone or something other than the source to filter what it says.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let the record show \u2014 human as I am (and God, have a little grace on me, por favor)<\/em> \u2014 that sometimes I\u2019ve gotten a little bored.\u00a0 There have been passages where I utter a \u201cwhat\u201d or\u00a0 \u201cwhat\u2019s the big deal\u201d<\/em> or even an \u201cewwww.\u201d<\/em> \u00a0 When I search through the kings\u2019 annals and ancient building code accounts, I\u2019ve even (sorry)<\/em> been prone to dozing off.\u00a0 As seemingly always, however, something strikes me.\u00a0 Profoundly.\u00a0 Something typically unexpected… but yet, amazingly, acutely, relevant.\u00a0 Just as it did this morning…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Attention all…\u00a0 God\u2019s message…<\/em><\/p>\n

There is no faithfulness, no love,
\nno acknowledgment of God in the land.<\/em><\/p>\n

There is only cursing, lying and murder,
\nstealing and adultery;<\/em><\/p>\n

There is violence everywhere \u2014
\none murder after another.<\/em><\/p>\n

That is why your land is in mourning,
\nand everyone is wasting away.
\nEven the wild animals, the birds of the sky,
\nand the fish of the sea are disappearing.<\/em><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t point your finger at someone else
\nand try to pass the blame…<\/em><\/p>\n

My people are being destroyed
\nbecause they don\u2019t know me.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Know it\u2019s with great sobriety that I share the above \u2014 aware of the violence in our land… the effect on our environment… the individual, corporate, and even government\u2019s dishonorable behavior \u2014 and also a behavior often seemed ignored or even celebrated.\u00a0 We all have at some time engaged in poor behavior, yet as I read the above, I\u2019m struck with how it begins… with \u201cno acknowledgement of God in the land.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are we freely allowed to acknowledge God in this land?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or is that being squelched?\u00a0 Is God\u2019s name being removed?\u00a0 From public places?\u00a0 From public credit?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I wonder… \u201cmy people are being destroyed because they don\u2019t know me.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> My inner nerd wants to comprehend how relevant that is today…<\/p>\n
