{"id":2029,"date":"2013-07-02T07:37:58","date_gmt":"2013-07-02T11:37:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=2029"},"modified":"2013-07-02T07:45:13","modified_gmt":"2013-07-02T11:45:13","slug":"hypocrisy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=2029","title":{"rendered":"hypocrisy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m not exactly certain how to pen today\u2019s post.\u00a0 It has something to do with hypocrisy.\u00a0 I can just feel it.\u00a0 Articulating it and putting it down on so-called cyber paper, however, is a completely different story.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As we watch life\u2019s events unfold in recent months, I get a sense that many among us want to be our own deciders of what is good and true and right.\u00a0 We should be able to choose for ourselves what is right and wrong.\u00a0 We know best.\u00a0 We should be allowed to choose what is moral, ethical, and good.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s much within that thinking that I agree with.\u00a0 Too many times on this planet we seem to reserve the right to be the convictor of right and wrong within one another.\u00a0 Last I read, that job has a few more divine requirements than I will ever possess.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But I hear a chant that we should be the deciders of what\u2019s individually best for each one of us.\u00a0 How many times do we hear the calls for independence?\u00a0 &#8230; to make our own choices?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, watch each teen as they approach adulthood faster than a speeding bullet.\u00a0 What do they want arguably more than anything else?\u00a0 What do they crave \u2014 even exhibited by the experimentation phase that so many encounter?\u00a0 They are learning to decide for themselves what is right and wrong.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yet while on one hand we chant that \u201cyes, we know best,\u201d on the other hand, it seems persons on all sides beg the government to be the moral slapper of the other side, so-to-speak&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><i>Tell them&#8230; tell them what\u2019s right and wrong!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Make them comply!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>That\u2019s it; set up a new law.\u00a0 Do it!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And yet, somewhere in there is where this hypocritical sense comes over me.\u00a0 We want to be able to choose what\u2019s right or wrong, but we also often cry out for some official aspect of government to tell those who disagree with our stance or activity that <i>they<\/i> are wrong.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we cheer on legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps we amen the Supreme Court&#8230; <i>(only when they agree with us, of course.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My point is that we can\u2019t have it both ways. \u00a0We can\u2019t say, \u201cI should be able to choose the path that seems right to me,\u201d but then advocate the government dictate the ethical path or standard for someone else.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The reality is that we cannot be the convictor of truth in one another.\u00a0 It\u2019s not our job. \u00a0We are not even capable of such. \u00a0We are not the director of another\u2019s behavior nor their conscience, nor their inner giver of peace, nor their decider of ethical activity.\u00a0 If we aren\u2019t that for one another, then government can\u2019t be that either.\u00a0 We can\u2019t crave the freedom to choose but then ask government to interfere in the choosing for others.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not exactly certain how to pen today\u2019s post.\u00a0 It has something to do with hypocrisy.\u00a0 I can just feel it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully,<\/p>\n<p>AR<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m not exactly certain how to pen today\u2019s post.\u00a0 It has something to do with hypocrisy.\u00a0 I can just feel it.\u00a0 Articulating it and putting it down on so-called cyber paper, however, is a completely different story. &nbsp;
