With all the valuing of celebrity and materialism…<\/p>\n
With all the focus on that which is less good…<\/i><\/p>\n

Thank God for yesterday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Something about Veterans Day is incredibly refreshing.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t yet another holiday in which retailers or radicals have somehow zapped the sacred… like how Christmas becomes about Santa… or Easter about rabbits and eggs.\u00a0 (P.S.\u00a0 Rabbits don\u2019t even lay eggs.)<\/i><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For the most part, Veteran\u2019s Day has remained pollution-free.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the armistice ending World War I began.\u00a0 While May\u2019s Memorial Day honors those who\u2019ve died representing America, Veterans Day, November 11th, honors all those who\u2019ve served.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the wake again of all that is less good,<\/i> Veterans Day gives us hope, highlighting those who have sacrificed more than most of us have ever even contemplated…\u00a0 honoring men and women who made choices in consideration of others, arguably more than consideration of self…\u00a0 honoring \u2014\u00a0lest one could say any better\u00a0\u2014\u00a0our authentic heroes.<\/p>\n

I am convinced that society knows not what a hero truly is.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In the days where the Lady Gaga\u2019s and Miley Cyrus\u2019s of the world get far too much attention \u2014 where politicians actually encourage division in order to advance their own initiatives (and selves)<\/i> \u2014 and where too many believe they are entitled to too much too often \u2014 we are a country in need of heroes.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We are a country in dire need of bona fide examples of humility, valor, selflessness, faithfulness, integrity, courageous leadership, and quiet strength.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My sense is that\u2019s what we honored yesterday.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Census Bureau reports that there are approximately 21.2 million veterans in the United States.\u00a0 Along with those who\u2019ve passed away, those are our authentic heroes.\u00a0 We\u2019re in need of them.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Thank God for Veterans Day.\u00a0 Thank God for our veterans.<\/p>\n

May we always honor you well.<\/p>\n
