Why do people keep telling us the debate is over?<\/p>\n

Why can they not talk about it?<\/p>\n

Why don\u2019t they want us talking about it?<\/p>\n

As has been expressed here on multiple occasions, I am not a rocket scientist (… shocking, I know).<\/i>\u00a0 I am no scientist whatsoever.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know exactly how the inconvenient or convenient truths specifically apply to the legitimacy of global warming\/climate change.\u00a0 What I do know, however, is that for some reason there are a growing number of other non-scientists who seem to be telling us to quit talking about it… quit questioning.\u00a0 They know what\u2019s right… they in their infinite wisdom know best…<\/p>\n

From Pres. Obama\u2019s January State of the Union:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe debate is settled.\u00a0Climate change is a fact.”<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From Sec. of State John Kerry, over the weekend:<\/p>\n

“We should not allow a tiny minority of shoddy scientists and science and extreme ideologues to compete with scientific facts, nor should we allow any room for those who think that the costs associated with doing the right thing outweigh the benefits.\u00a0 The science is unequivocal, and those who refuse to believe it are simply burying their heads in the sand.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Why is it we chastise those who question?\u00a0 Why, too, must we insult?\u00a0 But better yet, why are some now saying we can\u2019t even question it?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Again, I don\u2019t know whether the Earth is warming due to man\u2019s behavior.\u00a0 I am not a scientist.\u00a0 Most of the people attempting to silence the skeptics are also not scientists.\u00a0 But I do know that the climate has always changed.\u00a0 As respected author George Will said, too, over the weekend, \u201cOf course the climate is changing.\u00a0 It’s always changing.\u00a0 That’s what gave us the medieval warm period.\u00a0 That’s what gave us subsequent to that for centuries, the brutal Ice Age.\u00a0 Of course it’s changing.\u00a0 But when a politician on a subject implicating science, hard science, economic science, social science says the debate is over, you may be sure of two things. The debate is raging and he’s losing it.\u201d <\/i><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t claim to know that the debate is raging nor that anyone\u2019s losing it.\u00a0 The Intramuralist\u2019s long-stated stance has been that no accurate discussion of the Earth\u2019s trends can be logically had without including a study of the Earth\u2019s Creator.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What the Intramuralist also believes is that many, many people stand to profit politically and monetarily by convincing us that man is responsible for a disastrous warming of the Earth.\u00a0 My question today is whether or not that potential profit is what\u2019s ratcheting up the rhetoric in regard to this debate \u2014 or desired lack of it.<\/p>\n

Note the claims of Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) who proposed a congressional resolution last month, encouraging Congress and the White House to combat climate change due to its adverse affects on women.\u00a0 She wrote:\u00a0 \u201cInsecure women with limited socioeconomic resources may be vulnerable to situations such as sex work, transactional sex, and early marriage that put them at risk for HIV, STIs, unplanned pregnancy, and poor reproductive health.\u00a0 More broadly, the resolution says climate change will hurt \u2018marginalized\u2019 women, such as refugees, sexual minorities, adolescent girls, and women and girls with HIV.\u201d\u00a0<\/i> Lee tied climate change to prostitution, omitting any discussion of poverty, choice, or other factors.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Friends, there is no need to stop a debate unless a debate cannot continue logically and respectfully.\u00a0 I am thus assuming other motives are in play.\u00a0 Granted, it we actually did stop the debate, some of the unique, emotionally-charged, ratcheted-up rhetoric would cease, as well.<\/p>\n
