We\u2019ve heard it lots:\u00a0 life is short.\u00a0 I suppose the idea that \u201clife is short\u201d is somewhat relative; however, what I do know is that life doesn\u2019t last forever.\u00a0 For everything there is a season… a time to be born, a time to die…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to shake what\u2019s happened to Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.\u00a0 It seems to no longer exist… no longer on anyone\u2019s radar screen.<\/p>\n

There were 239 people on board…<\/p>\n

Citizens of America, Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Taiwan, and Ukraine…\u00a0 2 infants…\u00a0 the oldest, age 79, I believe.<\/p>\n

Vanished.<\/p>\n

Gone.<\/p>\n

In an instant.<\/p>\n

What would their loved ones want to say to them now?\u00a0 Better still, for those on that presumably tragic trajectory, what would they have said or done differently?\u00a0 … what would they have done had they known such would be their last hour?<\/p>\n

Would they have made a final phone call?\u00a0 … expressing their love, respect, adoration, or forgiveness?<\/p>\n

Would they have said a prayer?\u00a0 … acknowledging One bigger, better, and more powerful and knowing than self?<\/p>\n

Would they have spent intentional time in reflection? … focusing on what they have in common with others? … or would they still somehow have dwelt on differences that they once allowed to \u00a0divide?<\/p>\n

The question is:\u00a0 what would have been most important?<\/p>\n

What if it was us? … what would we think?\u00a0 … what would we do?\u00a0 … what would we hope for and believe in if we truly realized life was short?<\/p>\n

This is hard question, friends; it affects each and every one of us.\u00a0 I sometimes think we live so much in the moment that we\u2019re oblivious to life\u2019s shortness.\u00a0 In our world of instant gratification and lack of over-flowing gratitude \u2014 in our world that so often embraces dissension over unity in the name of personal passion \u2014 in a world where each of us have blatant blind spots \u2014 each <\/i>of us \u2014 I feel like we\u2019re missing something.\u00a0 We\u2019re missing the reality of the limitation of life; we don\u2019t typically live with the end in mind.<\/p>\n

As a friend\u2019s elementary school daughter penned for a school project last week, “What if you woke up today with only the things that you thanked God for yesterday?”<\/i><\/p>\n

Wow… through the minds of babes… that would certainly change what we said and did; would it not?\u00a0 It would certainly amend our focus.<\/p>\n

There was 1 American adult, Philip Wood, on board the fateful flight of Malaysia Airlines Saturday.\u00a0 In the immediate aftermath, his mother\u2019s words were as follows:\u00a0 “I know in my heart that Philip’s with God.\u00a0 Only people who know God can survive things like this.”<\/i><\/p>\n

And from his brother:\u00a0 \u201cI just wanted to say to all the other families that are around the world:\u00a0 we’re hurting; we know you’re hurting just as much, and we’re praying for you.”<\/i><\/p>\n

I see a recognition of God… a submission to him… and an awareness of other people and what we have in common…<\/p>\n

Life is short.<\/p>\n
