\"bachelor-juan-pablo-galavis\"<\/a>Let\u2019s embrace the road less travelled on the Intramuralist, wrestling with a subject atypical of our daily dialogue…\u00a0 did anyone watch \u201cThe Bachelor\u201d finale Monday night?<\/i><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now lest you believe we\u2019ve strayed too far from the wisdom (or lack of it)<\/i> within current events, I humbly submit to you that Monday\u2019s so-called \u201creality television\u201d made manifest one glaring cultural value. Let me first provide a brief synopsis, as creatively editorialized by The Baltimore Sun…<\/p>\n

I come to you with good news:\u00a0 The season is over and we never have to see El Bachelor Juan Pablo again.\u00a0 Things certainly have changed since \u201cJuanuary\u201d when we were so excited to join Juan Pablo on his \u201cadventura.\u201d\u00a0 What we didn\u2019t know was that \u201cadventura\u201d meant \u201cjourney taken by a rude, arrogant, egotistical, racist, cocky, douchebag, lying, hypocritical, self-centered, offensive jerk.”<\/i><\/p>\n

While the above may be a little harsh, on Monday\u2019s finale, Juan Pablo chose between 2 women, Nikki and Clare.\u00a0 At the climactic decision point, Clare went first (never a good sign).\u00a0 <\/i>Back to the Sun…<\/p>\n

For some reason, Clare talks first and launches into a speech about how much she loves him and how much she believes in him.\u00a0 Juan Pablo can barely keep from yawning.\u00a0 Please stop talking, Clare.\u00a0 Juan Pablo finally speaks and tells her she is amazing woman but he \u201cwishes the earth sucked me today because this is hardest decision but I have to say goodbye to you.\u201d\u00a0 He goes in for the adios hug and Clare pushes him away, which elicits huge applause from the live audience and the National Organization for Women.\u00a0 In her whiney baby voice, Clare tells him off and leaves with \u201cAfter what you put me through I would never want my children to have a father like you\u201d… Juan Pablo\u2019s response to Clare\u2019s verbal whipping is to casually shrug and say, \u201cWhoo I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t pick her\u201d…<\/i><\/p>\n

And then came the victor…<\/p>\n

Nikki arrives and can\u2019t wait to hear Juan Pablo tell her he loves her.\u00a0 She too launches into a speech about how great he is and that she can\u2019t imagine spending her life without him.\u00a0 Please stop talking, Nikki.\u00a0 He tells her \u201cI love so many things about you.\u00a0 You are like me, very honest.\u201d\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t tell her he loves her…\u00a0 Juan Pablo tells Nikki that he is not 100 percent sure that he wants to propose, but he is 100 percent sure that he doesn\u2019t want to let her go because \u201cI like you, A LOT.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

In the televised interviews after the announced selection, the ambience was odd.\u00a0 There was much talk from many women about how Juan Pablo never connected emotionally with any of the women in the room.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t ask them questions.\u00a0 He didn\u2019t get to know them.\u00a0 And then to the woman he chose, he could not, would not, acknowledge whether he loved her or not.<\/p>\n

And here then is why ABC\u2019s popular dating show is the content for today\u2019s post… (thank you, those of you who\u2019ve stayed with us even after the frequent sighs…)<\/i><\/p>\n

When Juan Pablo first met each of these women, his most frequent utterance was \u201cwow.\u201d\u00a0 As the show proceeded, he kissed many.\u00a0 He kissed many one right after the other.\u00a0 He did more than kiss.\u00a0 There were multiple times he spoke gleefully about some great connection, when the supposedly tethered woman didn\u2019t seem to feel it.\u00a0 It was all about the looks.\u00a0 It was about physical attraction.\u00a0 From my limited vantage point, this year\u2019s bachelor was driven by external appearance.<\/p>\n

Real beauty, however, comes from our inner self.\u00a0 It\u2019s the only beauty that never fades.\u00a0 Current culture doesn\u2019t seem to get that… as witnessed, sadly, on \u201cThe Bachelor.\u201d<\/p>\n
