I don\u2019t want to criticize; I don\u2019t want to complain; but so much of contemporary culture frustrates me… so much makes me want to scream for better and more…<\/p>\n

… the lack of ethics… the lack of respect… the lack of balanced spending…<\/p>\n

… the suppression of individual liberty… the intolerance of opinion…\u00a0 the repression of ideas…<\/p>\n

… the attack on individual expression… the attack on Judeo-Christian faiths… the attack on free speech… justified name calling… and lack of diverse, reverent dialogue…<\/p>\n

Geepers… the attacks… the squelching…the disrespect…<\/p>\n

It was only last week when former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke at Harvard\u2019s commencement.\u00a0 His words were fascinating; among them, he sternly said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThink about the irony: In the 1950\u2019s, the right wing was attempting to repress left wing ideas. Today, on many college campuses, it is liberals trying to repress conservative ideas, even as conservative faculty members are at risk of becoming an endangered species.\u00a0 And perhaps nowhere is that more true than here in the Ivy League…<\/i><\/p>\n

Great universities must not become predictably partisan.\u00a0 And a liberal arts education must not be an education in the art of liberalism.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

So much makes me want to scream for better and more.\u00a0 There should not be a squelching — of either conservatism or liberalism — of tradition or progression.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not about Michael Bloomberg.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about Pres. Obama.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about any political adversary or predecessor nor anyone on the predominant, proverbial left or right.\u00a0 It\u2019s about doing what\u2019s good and true and right — all the time.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d prefer to act as if today\u2019s blog parallels the iconic \u201cSeinfeld\u201d episode, \u201cThe Pitch.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cThe Pitch\u201d is the clever episode in which Jerry & Co. present NBC executives with an original sitcom idea, a series about nothing.\u00a0 That\u2019s right:\u00a0 nothing.<\/i>\u00a0 The ever neurotic, always amusing George Costanza argues with the execs about the validity of his proposed premise regarding “a show about nothing” — no plot, no stories —\u00a0 but the idea doesn\u2019t sit well with those in charge.\u00a0 As George says, “Look, if you want to just keep on doing the same old thing, then maybe this idea is not for you.\u00a0 I, for one, am not going to compromise my artistic integrity.\u00a0 And I’ll tell you something else, this is the show and we’re not going to change it.”\u00a0 <\/i>George and Jerry propose a show about nothing.<\/p>\n

I suppose some days such would be easy.\u00a0 Let\u2019s blog about nothing.\u00a0 Yep, nothing.\u00a0 But I can\u2019t.\u00a0 I can\u2019t.<\/i><\/p>\n

I want more than entertainment value.\u00a0 I want more than filling the air time.\u00a0 When we began this dialogue some 6 years ago, I knew then we would never settle for nothing.\u00a0 There are days it\u2019s necessary to scream for better and more.<\/p>\n

… the attacks… the squelching…<\/p>\n

Respectfully, of course…<\/p>\n
