{"id":624,"date":"2012-07-29T00:02:11","date_gmt":"2012-07-29T04:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=624"},"modified":"2012-07-29T08:29:36","modified_gmt":"2012-07-29T12:29:36","slug":"eat-mor-chikin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=624","title":{"rendered":"eat mor chikin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In case you haven\u2019t noticed, there\u2019s been a bit of a squabble<em> (good poultry term)<\/em> over Chic-Fil-A, one of the nation\u2019s top fast food franchises.\u00a0 The impetus for the squabble lies in the voluntary comments of Dan Cathy, Chic-Fil-A\u2019s chief executive, who said the following in a recent interview:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are very much supportive of the family \u2013 the biblical definition of the family unit.\u00a0 We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.\u00a0 We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Note that there has been zero evidence of discrimination on Chic-Fil-A&#8217;s part. \u00a0The outrage entirely revolves around the viewpoint expressed by the executive.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Each of us has the right to agree or disagree with Cathy\u2019s viewpoint.\u00a0 In fact, as consumers, we have the prerogative <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> to shop there.\u00a0 We can shop wherever we want&#8230; just as some African-Americans are known to support African-American owned businesses&#8230; just as some veterans are known to support veteran owned businesses.\u00a0 Shop where you want. \u00a0Shop &#8217;til you drop. \u00a0Shop for whatever reasons you want. \u00a0Feel free not to shop nor drop.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But that consumer freedom is for some reason not enough for all\u00a0\u2013 especially politicians seemingly more mindful of populist voting than of constitutional legality. \u00a0Specifically, the mayors of Boston and Chicago have now vowed to block the business from future expansion in their cities.\u00a0 <strong><em>\u201cHow dare they,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em><em><\/em>they infer&#8230;<strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<em>(sorry, an Intramuralist paraphrase).<\/em>\u00a0But to quote the mayor of Chicago, in reference to Cathy\u2019s comments, <em>\u201cIt\u2019s not what the people of Chicago believe.\u201d\u00a0<\/em> Last I knew, we didn\u2019t all believe the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, how have those mayors \u2013 officials who serve in a representative democracy<em> \u2013 <\/em>dealt with the following viewpoints?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly.\u00a0 There are a few handsome ones, like Naomi Campbell&#8217;s boyfriend, but there you see the most beautiful women and the most horrible men.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey\u2019re like leeches\u2026I\u2019m so tired of it\u2026 They start out the most popular person in the world, make a lot of money, big house, cars and everything.\u00a0 End up penniless.\u00a0 It is a conspiracy.\u00a0 The Jews do it on purpose.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWoman is the Nigger of the World.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman.\u00a0 Now, for me as a Christian \u2013 for me \u2013 for me as a Christian, it is also a sacred union.\u00a0 God&#8217;s in the mix.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Funny&#8230; but those cities have been silent about the above words from the mastermind behind popular fashion brands, Chanel and Fendi, the sale of CD\u2019s by Michael Jackson and John Lennon, and the stated stance of then Sen.
