Just because we believe something to be true, does not make it true. Let me say that another way: belief is not synonymous with truth.<\/p>\n

That said\u2026 emotions accompany our beliefs. But\u2026 since beliefs are not synonymous with truth, our emotions may also not be indicative of reality.<\/p>\n

Hence, it depends what we\u2019re putting into our heads and hearts.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the ole\u2019 saying? … \u201cgarbage in, garbage out\u201d?<\/p>\n

What we put into our heads and hearts matters. The challenge is that it\u2019s hard to put in what\u2019s actually true. We are inconsistent in our objectivity.<\/p>\n

Take the current racial conflict, for example. How do we get to the truth about what\u2019s really happening? \u2026 what\u2019s an accurate perspective?<\/p>\n

Simply sorting through a couple recent days\u2019 headlines, I found this:<\/p>\n

    So tell me: how can we discern what\u2019s true?<\/p>\n

    Driving through the Windy City last weekend, I saw one person\u2019s bumper sticker that read: \u201cTURN OFF FOX NEWS!\u201d (\u2026 yes, it was in shouting form\u2026).<\/em> I get it. FOX is a known conservative news source. Here\u2019s the problem. The sticker did not read: \u201cTURN OFF FOX NEWS AND<\/strong> MSNBC!\u201d<\/em> It only called for the turning off of one.<\/p>\n

    MSNBC, among others, is a known progressive news source. If people believe that the only bias necessary to be turned off and tuned out is \u201conly one,\u201d then they are limiting what gets put into their heads and their hearts. There is thus an increased likelihood that their perspective surrounding a certain scenario is based more on bias than on truth.<\/p>\n

    Let me add that part of the challenge for each of us is that it\u2019s hard to discern objective news and a consistently objective news source. Ironically, all of the headlines shared above are from a singular source (www.RealClearPolitics.com<\/a>).<\/em> But at least by looking at both the left and the right, I can form a hopefully more objective, accurate perspective.<\/p>\n

    Objectivity is key.<\/p>\n

    Still looking for that on a bumper sticker.<\/p>\n
