{"id":6481,"date":"2016-07-28T06:41:59","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T10:41:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=6481"},"modified":"2016-07-28T06:41:59","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T10:41:59","slug":"what-we-cannot-see","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intramuralist.com\/?p=6481","title":{"rendered":"what we cannot see"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/photo-1465405319612-e87fd78c23f6.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-6482\" src=\"http:\/\/intramuralist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/photo-1465405319612-e87fd78c23f6-683x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"photo-1465405319612-e87fd78c23f6\" width=\"654\" height=\"981\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One sentence.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s it.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019re going to go with just one sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Want to guess what it is?<\/p>\n<p>It is true that the Intramuralist has a special fondness for the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cJust do it.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cLet your \u2018yes\u2019 mean \u2018yes\u2019 and your \u2018no\u2019 mean \u2018no.\u2019 \u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cFire up!\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cGive me a second sentence.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>And, both \u201cWho dey!\u201d and \u201cBoiler up!\u201d <em>(&#8230; go easy on me, please).<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But today, after watching two weeks of conventions <em>(yes, I watch them both)<\/em> and being succumbed to the succeeding rants and raves on social media\u2026 watching people praise one candidate and tear town the other\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Watching the perceived increased racial tension and lack of respect for law enforcement\u2026<\/p>\n<p>And basically, watching the world go round, seemingly digressing in its polarized, intolerant state \u2014 an intolerance that exists on all sides because the one thing they aren\u2019t tolerant of, is any legitimacy of the other side\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Watching all that, one sentence by a friend stood out to me this week. They said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe deny others their perspective because it does not match what we believe to be true.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Let me say that again\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe deny others their perspective because it does not match what we believe to be true.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whether we are left, right, or somewhere in between, we deny the legitimacy in another\u2019s perspective because it does not match our own. We equate our opinion with wisdom and truth \u2014 and dismiss another as something lesser.<\/p>\n<p>Friends, that dismissal is dividing our country, zapping our unity, and\u00a0keeping us from loving all people well.<\/p>\n<p>Whether our approach comes from the left or the right, we must quit denying what we cannot see.<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully\u2026<br \/>\nAR<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One sentence.
