I\u2019d prefer the substance would be elevated; however, style makes for better TV\u2026 Speaking of TV\u2026 Clinton has more debate experience; Trump has more television experience. My sense is both are of value tonight.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I wonder if there will be any classic, future-frequently repeated lines\u2026 Reagan\u2019s \u201cthere you go again\u201d to then Pres. Carter\u2026 Veep candidate Lloyd Bentsen\u2019s \u201cSenator, you\u2019re no Jack Kennedy\u201d to Dan Quayle\u2026 Or what about those seemingly timeless gestures? \u2026 Bush 41 checking his wristwatch\u2026 Al Gore\u2019s infamous sigh\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ok, here we go\u2026 Wait\u2026 there is something else to watch if we get bored, correct? Has Monday Night Football started? Oh, the Saints are playing\u2026 I do love Drew Brees, you know\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Introductions, obligatory handshakes, etc. Struck for a moment by the first woman ever to be in this position\u2026 and for a total outsider to be in this position. What history. It should not be missed on us. Our bias should not get in the way.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>There she is. There he is. Virginia and Colorado are watching. Lots of incredibly close states. Personally, I think they both look great tonight. Lovin\u2019 the red pant suit and the blue tie\u2026 (And yes, moderator Lester Holt has a great voice.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Why are you a better choice?&#8221; asks the moderator\u2026 Oh, please\u2026 no eye rolling by anyone\u2026 at least not this early in the debate. I actually believe in seriously considering you both. That doesn&#8217;t help.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018I want to invest in you.\u2019 Thank you, Hillary. \u2018We have to expand new companies.\u2019 Thanks, Donald.\u00a0Safe early tag lines.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Why are they already interrupting? Don\u2019t they know that not interrupting is Manners 101?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This just in from a friend: \u201cInstead of everybody saying they are going to move to Canada, why don&#8217;t those two move to Canada and let&#8217;s just start over?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Back to the questions\u2026 (Can we turn on the game yet??)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>They smile and smirk when insulted. He looks angry\u2026 she looks annoyed. Just what I want in the leader of the free world\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBureaucratic red tape\u201d\u2026 now that\u2019s an obstacle we can agree on\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Tax returns, health records, and emails. Yes, ALL should be released. Both of you. Quit\u00a0trying to make your opponent look worse when you\u2019re doing the same thing in a different area.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere\u2019s something he\u2019s hiding.\u201d \u2026Don\u2019t you both owe us answers? Transparency? From a limited perspective, isn\u2019t there information that you both have no desire for us to see?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>How will he be on foreign policy? How will she be on trade? Can we tell with certainty?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It\u2019s about time that this country has someone running who has some \u201cidea about money.\u201d Please tell me that\u2019s all who are\u00a0currently running for President (\u2026 sniff, sniff\u2026).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Race is a significant issue in our country. We agree. As one wise friend texts in: \u201clet\u2019s hear solution! \u2014 not just more promises.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><em>My heart hurts for what\u2019s happening in Chicago, what&#8217;s happened in Ferguson, Dallas, etc. Both of you also speak of respecting law enforcement. Thank you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Should \u201cbad people\u201d have guns? Is it ok for \u201cgood people\u201d to have them? Great questions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe do always have to make sure we keep people safe.\u201d Yes. Another amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And yes\u2026 we ALL need to be MUCH STRONGER on terrorism than we have been\u2026 PLEASE.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI agree with you.\u201d Could you two say that a little more often? We are Americans, after all.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think maybe there\u2019s a political reason why you can\u2019t say it.\u201d Isn\u2019t that why both of you say half of the things you say? Isn\u2019t that why so many of us sitting at home are deeply disappointed in our government? Why we have trouble trusting you?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Work with the faith and business communities\u2026 what a wonderful idea. Let\u2019s use the resources provided, rather than continuing to fun government as the source of all charity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>People \u201care very very upset for what their politicians have told them and what their politicians have done.\u201d Yep. Oooh\u2026 here come the zingers. By both. So presidential. Not.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>On the \u201cbirther\u201d controversy\u2026 they both (and their surrogates) have used this when politically expedient. Not the biggest issue.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, the truth\u2026 I crave that. From both. Isn\u2019t that the problem with these debates? The truth\u00a0often seems secondary to political ploys, good-sounding sound bites, rhetoric, etc.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe\u2019re making progress\u201d against ISIS. I pray to God this is true. Yes, it needs to be a top priority.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHow would you prevent homegrown (terrorist) attacks?\u201d Thank you, Lester. I want to hear specific, actionable policy on this \u2014 not good-sounding rhetoric.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cKnock the hell out of ISIS.\u201d I don\u2019t swear much, but that idea sounds really, really great to me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The singular greatest threat is nuclear armament. Scary. I think you both might agree. That might be scary, too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Ooooh\u2026 looks like the gloves might have just come off. Again \u2014 by both \u2014 so not presidential.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Done. Sheewwww. Sigh. This is exhausting. Can someone finally turn on the game?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You mean we weren\u2019t watching one?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Oh, wait\u2026 one more thought\u2026 Drew Brees. I love him. How\u2019s he doing tonight?
