Mitt Romney.\u00a0 Ok, perhaps not all eyes&#8230; I read rumors and rants from people who say something along the lines of <em>\u201cI just can\u2019t stand the sight of him\u201d<\/em> \u2014 a reaction many politicians elicit regardless of affiliation.\u00a0 Truthfully, that reaction bothers me a bit.\u00a0 How can we know who someone is, what they believe, what they stand for, if we only listen to critical analysis via partisan filters?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But lest we digress&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Just as then Sen. Barack Obama did 4 years ago, tonight Mitt Romney will attempt to \u201cdefine\u201d himself to the American people.\u00a0 As the incumbent, Pres. Obama is already \u201cdefined\u201d in regard to what kind of president he would be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And so sometime shortly after 10 p.m. EST, the former Governor of Massachusetts will share with the viewing public who he is and how he intends to govern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Friends, this post is not about Mitt Romney.\u00a0 It\u2019s not about Barack Obama.\u00a0 It\u2019s not an endorsement nor favoring of either candidate; in fact, next week at the Democrats\u2019 convention at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, we could reprint much of this post\u2019s same points, simply by changing the order of the names.\u00a0 Today\u2019s main point, no less, speaks directly to the attempt by the candidates to \u201cdefine\u201d themselves&#8230;\u00a0 and the game that is played to obstruct the truthfulness of the process&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOh, the games people play now\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Every night and every day now\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Never meaning what they say now\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Never saying what they mean&#8230;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Note the impurity of the American political process, acknowledged by Democrat strategist, Joe Trippi, yesterday morn, saying, <em>\u201cWe\u2019re fighting over the <\/em><strong><em>definition<\/em><\/strong><em> of Mitt Romney right now.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 The fight?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Best this current events observer can discern \u2014 noting descriptions actually articulated by Romney and his campaign \u2014 Mitt Romney will attempt to \u201cdefine\u201d himself Thursday night as the following:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Cub Scout<\/li>\n<li>Family man<\/li>\n<li>A husband of \u201cunwavering care and devotion\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201c<strong>Not<\/strong> a career politician\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Comprehender of the private sector<\/li>\n<li>An economic expert<\/li>\n<li>\u201cOutstanding public servant\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Salvager of the Olympic games<\/li>\n<li>Friend of small &amp; new business<\/li>\n<li>\u201cA superb manager\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cAn exceptional man with unique qualifications to lead our country through perilous times\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, best this current events observer can discern \u2014 noting descriptions actually articulated by Obama and his campaign \u2014 Obama will attempt to \u201cdefine\u201d Romney as the following:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cExtreme\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A candidate who has a &#8220;lack of willingness to take responsibility for what this job entails&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>\u201cNot ready for primetime\u201d<\/li>\n<li>A person having a \u201cpenchant for secrecy\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Possessing a business record that is \u201cnot a qualification for president\u201d<\/li>\n<li>An \u201cextreme candidate\u201d\u00a0 <em>(&#8230; did I say \u2018extreme\u2019 yet?)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Romney will attempt to \u201cdefine\u201d himself in the best possible light; Obama will attempt to \u201cdefine\u201d Romney in the worst possible light.\u00a0 Next week the roles will be reversed, and Obama will remind us of his \u201cdefinition\u201d as the family man, while Romney\u2019s camp will find some description undoubtedly synonymous with \u201cextreme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So here\u2019s the zillion dollar question:\u00a0 what is true?\u00a0 &#8230; what is accurate?\u00a0 &#8230; and wiser yet&#8230; <strong><em>does it matter?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c&#8230; Talkin\u2019 \u2018bout you and me\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And the games people play&#8230;\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Respectfully,<\/p>\n<p>AR<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight all eyes will be on Gov.
