Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because people <em>care.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll say that again. <em>Seventeen innocents died and people <strong>care.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Isn\u2019t that the point we miss most in some of our tough topic discussions?<\/p>\n<p>We assume that because people come from a wide variety of angles <em>(note: far more than a mere two)<\/em> that they don\u2019t care.<\/p>\n<p>We think <strong>They. Don\u2019t. Care.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Isn\u2019t that the reality?<\/p>\n<p>And once we\u2019ve convinced ourselves that another<em> (again: far more than the other)<\/em> side\/person doesn\u2019t care, then we can justify believing and calling them morally inferior <em>(\u2026 and yes, I actually saw one adult use that exact description in another thread).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wow.<\/p>\n<p>Friends, this is tough. This is us. And this is sad.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is sad.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because reasonable people\u2026<br \/>\n\u2026 intelligent people\u2026<br \/>\n\u2026 good-thinking people\u2026<br \/>\n\u2026 good-hearted people\u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 typically reasonable, intelligent, good-thinking, and good-hearted people are justifying thinking of whole other people groups as morally inferior.<\/p>\n<p>As the weekend thread about Parkland evolved some forty plus comments later, I had one sincere friend succinctly pose her concern that the days of people coming together, wanting to make lasting change, are permanently gone. Instead of listening to other angles and perspectives, because we are assuming that another side\/person is morally inferior \u2014 in other words, because we are assuming <em>the worst<\/em> in another \u2014 we justify exerting only our opinion\u2026 because\u2026<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WE<\/strong> are morally superior.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Friends, with all due respect\u2026 knowing I can be just as guilty\u2026 do we see the arrogance and judgment in that assumption?<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 to believe we are morally superior to another?<\/p>\n<p>I continue to believe that our country is digressing morally and socially. It\u2019s not because certain traditions no longer exist nor because we\u2019re less old-fashioned or more technologically advanced.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s instead manifest in how we treat each other\u2026 how typically reasonable, intelligent, good-thinking, and good-hearted people treat each other.<\/p>\n<p>No man\/woman is morally superior.
