What happens? It seems as if this is a desire by some, so let\u2019s just play this out.<\/p>\n
What if we no longer acknowledge God or aspire to be like him? What if we no longer recognize God\u2019s existence? What if we no longer see him as good?<\/p>\n
What if we conclude that God\u2019s role in society is no longer necessary or doesn\u2019t even exist?<\/p>\n
What happens, therefore, if we actually remove<\/i> him?<\/p>\n
Without a doubt, everyone has a right to believe what they wish; belief is not forced. I have long thought of the key exchanges between the characters of Morgan Freeman and Jim Carrey in the hilarious \u201cBruce Almighty.\u201d Freeman \u2014 portraying God\u2019s earthly role \u2014 says, \u201cYou can\u2019t mess with free will.\u201d Later on in the movie, when Carrey\u2019s character is desperately frustrated as his girlfriend (portrayed by Jennifer Aniston)<\/em> no longer wants to be with him, Carrey cries out, \u201cHow do you make someone love you without changing free will?\u201d To which Freeman responds, \u201cWelcome to my world.\u201d<\/p>\n So while we each have a right to believe, just because we believe it doesn\u2019t make it true. And we can\u2019t force anyone to believe like us\u2026 nor to believe in God.<\/p>\n So again, what then happens if we decide to remove God from society?<\/p>\n For the many who blame him \u2014 or blame his imperfect followers (because believe me; we can be <\/i>very<\/i><\/b> imperfect)<\/i> \u2014 what if we just made it easier by removing all reference and acknowledgement of God?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Would that make us\/society better? \u2026 wiser? \u2026 easier for all of us to get along?<\/p>\n But then\u2026<\/p>\n If we remove God from society, what becomes the definition of justice?<\/i><\/p>\n Who<\/i> gets to decide what is just?<\/p>\n What becomes the definition of good<\/i> and evil?<\/i><\/p>\n Who<\/i> gets to decide what is good and evil?<\/p>\n One of the most significant challenges facing our country today is that we disagree on what good and evil are. We have different definitions, different extremes, and different applications of what is totally, outrageously wrong versus what\u2019s acceptable or really not that bad.<\/p>\n When you and I disagree on what is good \u2014 or disagree on what is evil \u2014 conflict will fill the gap between us.<\/p>\n Isn\u2019t that what we witness now? \u2026 so much conflict? … tension?<\/p>\n If we remove God and his role from our society, we remove the only authority capable of establishing absolute justice, good, and evil.
