Congratulations!\u00a0 Today is your day.<\/p>\n

You’re off to Great Places!\u00a0 You’re off and away!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You have brains in your head.\u00a0 You have feet in your shoes.<\/p>\n

You can steer yourself, any direction you choose.<\/p>\n

You’re on your own.\u00a0 And you know what you know.<\/p>\n

And YOU<\/strong> are the guy who’ll decide where to go.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Oh, yes, we\u2019re off to great places.<\/p>\n

As some would argue, \u201cThere\u2019s no position that\u2019s greater.\u201d<\/p>\n

For you see you\u2019ve been chosen<\/p>\n

To be the next debate moderator.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You’ll look at the topics.\u00a0 Look ’em over with care.<\/p>\n

About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.”<\/p>\n

With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet,<\/p>\n

You’re too smart to go down any not-so-good street.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And you may not find any, you’ll want to go down.<\/p>\n

In that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of town.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Like Lehrer and Raddatz and CNN\u2019s Candy,<\/p>\n

Each who was slammed for being something less than dandy.<\/p>\n

Jim was too silent; Martha deferring;<\/p>\n

And Crowley on Libyan ambiguity was for some reason confirming.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It’s opener there in the wide open air.<\/p>\n

Out there things can happen and frequently do<\/p>\n

to people who think they\u2019s so brainy\u00a0as you.<\/p>\n

And when things start to happen, don’t worry.\u00a0 Don’t stew.<\/p>\n

Just go right along.\u00a0 You’ll start happening, too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But when they talk over their allotted time, as they\u2019ll so obviously do<\/p>\n

Please have the guts to tell them to be quiet.\u00a0 And shoo.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Oh, it disturbs me how this system has evolved<\/p>\n

Too much money, attack ads \u2014 and individual responsibility absolved.<\/p>\n

The candidates come in with their pre-determined thoughts<\/p>\n

Avoiding the questions, like no always-ethical leader ought.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Do they really, truly not comprehend our questions?<\/p>\n

Or did their campaign simply have better talking point suggestions?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Why do they ramble and talk over time?<\/p>\n

Why does no one keep them in line?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yet each partisan camp will declare them the winner<\/p>\n

While subtly inferring their opponent is some merciless sinner.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Geepers.\u00a0 Geepers.\u00a0 Watch out, friend.<\/p>\n

To this game of spin there will be no end.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Can you believe this election is a bit of a game?<\/p>\n

And the partisan camps, they are to blame?<\/p>\n

They are divisive and rude \u2014 with straight-forward answers too late.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t even get me started on all they exaggerate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Can you believe the winner will our country then direct?<\/p>\n

Even though he can\u2019t treat his opponent with respect?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But as for this debate, when each finds victory still in doubt,<\/p>\n

They\u2019ll shudder and shift… \u00a0\u201cIt was the moderator!\u201d they\u2019ll shout.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

OH!<\/p>\n

THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yes, to some place greater…<\/p>\n

Hopefully, hopefully…<\/p>\n

If you’re not<\/em><\/strong> the moderator.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Respectfully… always… with a little tongue in cheek…<\/p>\n
