The challenge is that when we become emotional, sometimes we justify omitting respect — and simply spew opinion. That isn’t necessarily wise. My goal is to be wise… and to encourage that in each of us.

My high school friend, Chris Miller (Khwaja now) suggested I might like your blog – she was right. I completely agree that all things can be discussed – civilly. I believe that people often agree on the “what” but struggle with the “how.” For example, people may agree that in a perfect world, everyone would have healthcare, but disagree quite vehemently in how that should be done (government? business? individual?). And that’s where the conversation breaks down. Condoleezza Rice notes that if we start with common ground, we would be much better positioned to find a solution acceptable to all. Anyway – I will definitely put your blog on my reading list. Thanks! ~Jean
